Police officers protect people, prevent crime, respond to incidents, investigate offences and work with communities to solve problems.
As a Police Constable you can move between emergency response, neighbourhood policing, investigations and specialist roles during your career. You will deal with people at difficult moments, make lawful and proportionate decisions, record what you do and work closely with colleagues and other public services.
The qualities we look for include integrity, public service, calm decision making, communication, teamwork, curiosity, resilience and the ability to treat people fairly.
The current HIOWC route is the Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP). Recruitment and initial professional development are connected: after selection and appointment, new officers complete structured learning, supervised operational development, assessment and probation.
